Services

Initial consultation

On the phone or in person, I take stock of your existing conditions so that the process of making or managing a garden goes as smoothly as possible. Whether you want to add to an existing landscape or create a new one, I can help you by selecting, planting, and tending to a palette of mostly native species well-suited to your landscape, and am happy to work with heirloom perennials, vegetables, and fruits adapted to our region as well.

I need a little or a lot of help taking care of my garden!

I offer care for existing gardens and plantings without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. I have experience in transitioning high maintenance gardens into beautifully resilient, lower maintenance ones using management techniques I’ve developed and honed over the years. Often, my work creates more self-sufficient and wildlife-friendly spaces that require fewer hours of care!

I want to make a garden for the first time or add a new garden to my landscape!

In collaboration with clients, I create gardens that range from restful to rambunctious, including naturalistic beds and borders, relaxed outdoor gathering spaces, and places to sit still and dream. I start by asking what you like to do outdoors and what makes you feel at home in a landscape. I then design a space you can easily manage within your budget and time limitations.

I'm excited to do some gardening work myself and I like learning in person!

Are you hoping to learn new garden skills bit-by-bit, as your packed schedule allows? Tackle a garden renovation in one fell swoop? Prune an intimidating old apple tree? Plant a hedgerow to support your favorite birds? I love working alongside clients and sharing what I have learned from more than a decade of work at public and private gardens

Let's talk about stewardship and maintenance!

In addition to working with homeowners, I help estates, designers, and public/private gardens during the design process and after. This includes troubleshooting landscapes after installation, taking inventory of current plantings, and creating maintenance calendars. I am familiar with many styles of gardens as well as natural plant communities. I've worked with plantings both historic and contemporary, from organic veggie gardens to Romantic-era landscapes of the 19th century to abandoned agricultural pastures.

Plants for purchase

I propagate and sell small-ish quantities of native plants grown from local seed that I’ve collected, with a particular focus on plants well-suited to dry shade. I also grow a rotating selection of my favorite hard-to-find (often heirloom) perennials and annuals each year. I grow these plants primarily for maintenance and coaching clients, but please reach out if you’re local and looking for something in particular!
